Tennessee Naturalist Anna McDonald with Core Academy of Science will lead this guided adventure through Laurel-Snow State Natural Area to the breathtaking Snow Falls. \nThis is a relaxed\, educational hike where everyone is encouraged to enjoy the trail at their own pace. Feel free to hike ahead of the group or turn back at any time if you’ve had your fill of adventure. \nAlong the way we’ll:\n🍄 Search for native mushrooms and other fascinating plant and wildlife species\n🌿 Learn about the ecology of the Cumberland Plateau\n⛏️ Discover the rich history of Laurel-Snow\, including its logging\, coal mining\, and reservoir past\n💦 Cool off with a swim in the beautiful Hole at the end of the hike\, so dress accordingly! \nAbout the Hike: \nLaurel-Snow State Natural Area encompasses 2\,259 acres on Walden Ridge in Rhea County. The area features rugged gorges carved by Laurel\, Richland\, Morgan\, and Henderson Creeks and is home to spectacular waterfalls\, scenic overlooks\, towering rock formations\, and one of Tennessee’s few remaining stands of virgin forest. \nOur destination\, Snow Falls\, is a stunning 35-foot waterfall reached by following the western fork of the trail after approximately 1.5 miles.
